City Council

The City of Durant Council Committees is a process to team with City staff. The committees will be called upon to work with staff upon request. Committees will assist staff in bringing ideas, recommendations and information to the Mayor and Council, in order for the City to continue providing the best service possible within the City’s means.

City Management

The city is led by an elected Mayor and governed by the five-person City Council. They represent the community at large and are elected in staggered four-year terms. As the City's Chief Executive Officer, the Mayor oversees the activities of the various City Departments. The city operates under a Council-Administrator form of government as provided in the City Charter. The powers of the Council are policy setting and legislative in nature along with appointing the City Administrator.

City Council Meetings

Are held the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. at Durant City Hall.

City Administration

The City Administrator coordinates, prepares and disseminates information for City Council decision making, The Administrator develops and implements administrative policies and guidelines in conjunction with the City Council and various City Boards and Commissions. The Administrator exercises general and administrative supervision over all City Departments, including the City Clerk's Office, Public Works/Public Utilities, and provides oversight and implementation of the City's budget.

City Clerk's Office

The City Clerk's Office provides a wide variety of services including records management, licensing, preparation of City Council agendas and minutes and maintenance of the City's financial systems. Financial activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and the investment of City surplus funds are the responsibility of the City Clerk's Office. The City Clerk's Office has the goal of achieving excellence in budgeting and financial reporting while maintaining the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports. Billing for all utilities and city services are handled through the City Clerk's Office as well as payment for all goods and services used by all the City Departments and operations.
