Utilities

Water

The City of Durant encourages water conservation. City water utility customers may request the use of an "irrigation meter" which allows for sprinkling and irrigation activities without resulting sewer user charges.

The water wells used by the City meet current standards for construction and maintenance. These factors do not contribute to the susceptibility of the source water to contamination.

Rates: $2.25/100 cubic feet. Minimum monthly billing: $6.75. Meter deposit (applies to renters only): $50. Average monthly bill for a family of four: $18 (assumes monthly usuage of 6,000 gallons).

Wastewater

Unless a specific contract governs charges for sewer service of water service to the customer or water service has been shut off by the City, sewer service charges are based upon actual water usage. Sewer charges shall be billed to the same customer responsible for paying the cost of the metered water usage which is used to determining the appropriate sewer charges. The minimum charge applies to all accounts and is based on the number of residential living units.

Rates: $3.75/100 cubic feet. Minimum monthly billing $7.25. Average monthly bill for a family of four: $22.50 (assumes monthly usuage of 4,500 gallons).

Contact City Hall for change in service. Meter readings occur monthly, about the 20th. Bills (water, sewer, and garbage) are mailed on the 1st with payments due on or before the 20th. Payments can be made at City Hall, the drop box, automatic payment, or by mail. After the 20th, there is a $5 penalty. If the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, payment will be processed the first business day without penalty.
